Our flagship Shiraz, the 'Fenestella' Shiraz, showcases a classic Hunter Valley Shiraz. This wine has a rich and complex palate of red and black fruits derived from maturation in French oak puncheons. Medium bodied yet intense, this Shiraz is approachable on release and will continue to reward with extended cellaring.
95 POINTS "A contemporary take on Hunter shiraz, flouting violet, bacon back, blueberry and iodine scents as if the wine was from somewhere far cooler. Mid-weighted, pulpy and grape spiced. Classy French oak mows in the seams. Gently. This is very good. Delicious. Grafted material from a famed centurion vineyard. " James Halliday Australian Wine Companion
93 POINTS “Different expression of Hunter Valley shiraz. Floral as well as savoury, a touch meaty,
cherried but with other components ahead. Most interesting, in a good way. Excellent frame of
(appropriately weighted) tannin too.” THE WINEFRONT, Campbell Mattinson
93 POINTS “Just over medium weight and from a year where depth of fruit was apparent, this is a
charming and excellent Hunter Valley Shiraz expression, redolent of red berries, earthy spice, some
twiggy wood notes and a light dusting of black pepper. Tannins give structure, the wine feels smooth
and long. Cellar fo 20 years.” WBM MAGAZINE, Mike Bennie
92 POINTS “A must-do on your next Hunter Valley excursion is to eat at
Bistro Molines. Trust me. It is here you will also find the home of Tallavera
Grove, one of the best vistas in the district, and the home of Carillion Wines.
This Fenestella Shiraz is their flagship wine. The fruit comes from cuttings
that originated in the famed heritage listed Tallawanta vineyard, found
between the Hunter Valley Gardens and Harrigan's Pub. This is an example
of a wine that needs some air to show its best. On opening it was flat with
little action. Some nuttiness (peanuts?) the main player. A day on and it
shows great concentration and depth. Black and red fruits get in deep with
two hands. Fine earthy feels walk calmly leaving a fine dusting of tannin.
Another medium bodied Hunter Valley beauty.” QWINE
